Peckham Rooms Hotel

The Peckham Rooms Hotel is a grade 2 listed building that was extended in the 1970s with a modern addition. I was hired to update the room layouts and communal spaces to cater for guests exploring London and visiting their relatives that live locally. The existing Hotel design was very basic with a lot of off suite bedrooms, a basement function room that was used as a store for years.

This was by no means an easy build, with very involved conservation officers and a building that had a leaky flat roof and outdated services. We all persevered and the hotel is now open and thriving. One of the clients, Mel, had this to say: ‘Myself and Jose just want to say a final huge thanks for all your hard work and perseverance on a tough project, but worth it!’

My approach to the modernisation of the Peckham Rooms Hotel services and our commitment to make the new plan as optimal as possible meant every bedroom within the new design had an en suite shower or bathroom. It was important to have a good mix of rooms and allow for all types of visitor to be catered for. To make the fit out as cost effective as possible I then designed a bespoke kit of parts for the bedroom furniture that could be simply configured and installed within each bedroom. I then put together 3 options of room colour and applied these to the rooms to create a mixed and informal feel.

I enjoy a challenge, and will strive to find the ideal space whatever a build throws at us along the way. That’s why I value good communication with clients and forge strong working relationships so we can work together to overcome any issues.
